Dr Franziska Curran (Principal Consultant)

Franziska Curran is a Principal Consultant and climate and energy specialist with a background in Chemical Engineering. She holds a PhD from the University of Queensland’s Energy Initiative and the School of Chemical Engineering, where she researched market-based approaches to delivering essential services in rural, low-income regions. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Disaster Risk Reduction and brings a multidisciplinary lens to energy access, climate resilience, and decarbonisation.

Franziska is a specialist in corporate and industrial decarbonisation strategy, with particular expertise in emissions forecasting, abatement planning, and the development of credible, cost-effective net zero pathways including scope 3 emissions. She is an expert in the reformed Safeguard Mechanism, supporting some of Australia’s largest emitters to navigate policy changes and compliance requirements. Her work is grounded in a strong technical foundation in carbon accounting understanding in both the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERs) and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Standards. She addresses complex emissions challenges across scopes 1, 2, and 3, delivering practical solutions aligned with regulatory obligations and stakeholder expectations.

Franziska also brings experience from the international development and energy access space, having worked in Papua New Guinea on off-grid electrification projects. Her career reflects a commitment to equitable, sustainable development across sectors, informed by her passion for humanitarian engineering.
